About the DDOE

Back when Ethan was born, I started posting pictures to our website because we were so far from family at the time.

There was very little by the way of “blog” software back in 2002, and if there was anything like a “photoblog” well I had never seen it.

The DDOE (as it came to be known) was inspired by Laurie Kramer’s Daily Digital and I believe that she wrote her own script as well.

I wrote the database software behind the original DDOE back in the days when I could survive on 4 hours of sleep and was learning PHP and MySQL. I made my own comments function, and even set it up so that if you tried to put in a weekend date it would ship you to either the Friday or Monday page (if it existed).

It has been several years since I wrote that now, and the code is painfully complex. Quite frankly it’s a house of cards on a pile of sand. I realized I needed to do something to make it better, and, well, the easiest thing is to just “cut the cord” and move to a completely new system.

So I registered this domain and started planning to move things over.

I’m not sure when, if, or how I’ll move everything from the old site over to the new, but for now, know that new stuff will be appearing here and not there.

Also note: this will also let me post more frequently, and occasionally even a video (which will probably be in QuickTime or Flash).

Finally, the new site will allow comments (much more easily) and an RSS/Atom feed.
